Austin Kearns has been acquired by the New York Yankees from the Cleveland Indians. According to the team, the deal is in exchange for a player to be named or cash and it has been almost completed. On Friday night, the deal was finalized as the trade deadline is getting closer. No official announcement has been made yet for the deal but according to sources, trade will be completed on August 20th, or before.
Outfielder Austin Kearns had a good season with the Indians. In the 84 games he played for the Cleveland, he hit .272 with 18 doubles, one triple, 42 RBIs and 8 home runs. Before his trade to the Yankees, Kearns has spent the entire season with the Cleveland. This season, she showed his versatility as he played all three outfield positions for Cleveland. He made 12 starts in the right field, 4 in center field while 63 in the left field.
If we have a look on his career, Kearns has played 926 games and the outfielder has a batting average of .258 with 464 RBI and 113 home runs. In the 1998 draft, he was selected by the Reds in the first round of the draft. The Yankees will be his fourth team. He previously played with the Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals and most recently the Indians. The upcoming season will be his tenth which means this guy has pretty much experience as well. We hope that he will not disappoint the New York Yankees fans.
