It is a very horrible and heart rendering act of dogging out the bodies of your lose loved ones from the cemetery; and this is exactly what happened in the Burr Oak Cemetery at Alsip, Illinois which is a suburb near Chicago. It has been reported by the investigators that approximately, 100 bodies have been dug out from this place on Wednesday, as this burial plots have been resold.

The Cemetery caught great media attention because this is not an ordinary burial ground. It was the first African-American cemetery of Chicago. There are many notable personalities, who have been buried like Dinah Washington, the Jazz Legend, Bluesmen Wilie Dixon, Otis Spann, Inman Jackson, and The Harlem Globetrotter besides several Negro League baseball players.

The graves of a murder victim, Emmett Will and his mother Mamie Till Mobley is also here. He was a young teenaged boy; whose brutal slaying helped to spark the 20th century civil rights movement in 1955. At present, a museum is also being constructed on the ground of same cemetery in honor of him.

Beside these many legendary musicians from the Chicago Blues Era are also buried here The President of Leak and Sons Funeral Home, Spencer Leak Sr said that, it is the only cemetery where the African Americans have buried for several years.

Authorities of plot have confirmed that the whole incident is a part of a scheme to sell the plots again to customers. The bodies of dead once have been dug and dumped in mass graves at the backside of this cemetery. The investigators have also reported that so many burial plots have been resold, but no charges have been issued, yet.

In the end, a special thanks to cemetery manager Marilyn Gates and her staff for telling us the history of this graved people and providing information about the cemetery.
