In the US state of Connecticut an explosion has shaken the power plant. The plant is situated on the Connecticut River, to the south of the town. This explosion was a huge one and at least 5 people were killed and 12 people were injured with this huge explosion as stated by the local mayor. Kleen Energy plant is built outside Middletown. Even then it has been reported by the people who are living up to 50 km (30 miles) that the blast shook their homes. As according to the reports of the nearby Middlesex Hospital, there were 11 victims they received. While hospital in the state capital, Hartford received three. A rescue operation is underway as there are reports that some people are trapped under the debris of the plant building. There were specialist dog teams and search experts at the site and they were trying to get the trapped people out of the debris. There were at least 100 firefighter who were sent to the place of explosion and they fought with the fire for about an hour.

Sebastian Giuliano, Middletown Mayor said that it was caused due to a gas explosion. Mr. Giuliano said on Sunday evening while Speaking at a news conference that the identities of the dead people had not yet been released, as some of the families of the victims had not yet been informed. Mr. Giuliano said that the explosion occurred when the plant was undergoing a series of gas test. That plant was just 95% complete and it opened fully in the summer and about 100 to 200 people worked on this huge site. These people were employed my different companies. According to Al Santostefano, deputy fire marshall, at the time of explosion there were 50 construction workers on the site. Officials say that the public is safe and there is no further danger to them and they have not evacuated the area however the plant will remain cordoned off by the police.
