On Saturday, No. 2 Texas grabbed 103-90 victory over No. 10 North Carolina in the first basketball game played at the new Cowboys Stadium. The second ranked Texas kept its undefeated record intact with impressive performances by Damion James and Dexter Pittman. The Texas next home game is against No. 12 Michigan State on Tuesday night.
Damion James scored 25 points and 15 rebounds while Dexter Pittman scored 23 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to guide their team a comfortable victory. J’Covan Brown posted 21 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Avery Bradley scored 20 points. The Longhorns (10-0) cruised to a victory in the same building where Colt McCoy and the Texas football team won the Big 12 title two weeks before.
North Carolina started the game well for the first fifteen minutes, after that a stretch of 10 straight misses entangled them. The score was 82-78 with 6:59 to play in favor of Texas; North Carolina tried but couldn’t manage to surpass it. Ed Davis made nine of 13 shots and had 21 points and nine rebounds while Tyler Zeller was 7 of 8 for 16 points. The rest of the Tar Heels combined for 20 baskets. Marcus Ginyard returned from a one-game absence to score 13, but he missed seven of his first 10 tries.
