Girija Prasad Koirala died
According to reports the former Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has died. He died today at the age of 87. He had been suffering from respiratory disease and his condition had deteriorated in the morning after a bout of diarrhea. Girija Prasad Koirala had a low hemoglobin level and was suffering from bronchitis and lungs problem and three days back he was discharged from a city hospital in Kathmandu. His daughter Sujata Koirala, who is an advisor to Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, told that he had been “unconscious since this morning”.
His condition was critical and he had been on ventilator. Due to his condition he had been staying in his daughter’s home and a team of doctors were attending him. After his death the Nepali Congress has also asked the senior leaders who were out of the country to return the capital as soon as possible.
Koirala was born in 1925 and he was a Nepalese politician and the President of the Nepali Congress. He was the pioneer of the Nepalese labor movement and he had been active in politics for over sixty years. Girija Prasad Koirala had been Prime Minister of Nepal four times, serving from 1991 to 1994, 1998 to 1999, and 2000 to 2001 and from 2006 to 2008. Koirala founded the Nepal Mazdoor Congress in 1948 and later the same party known as the Nepal Trade Union Congress. He became the President of the Morang district Nepali Congress in 1952.
