December 15, 2009
Freshman forward Jeronne Maymon has left the Marquette University men’s basketball team, the move was announced by head coach Buzz Williams on Monday evening. Jeronne Maymon was the first recruit by Buzz Williams as head coach of the Golden Eagles. This announcement of his move comes two days after Wisconsin (72-63) victory over Marquette University.
Maymon, the two-time state player of the year at Madison Memorial High School, he played at Madison Memorial High School for four years and led the Spartans to a 26-1 record and the WIAA Division I championship last season. He appeared in nine games off the bench for Marquette in 2009-10. Maymon the 6’6″, 250 pound forward averaged 4.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 16.3 minutes per game while shooting 48.1 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from the free throw line.
Williams said,
“We want to thank Jeronne for his contributions to the program while he was here and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
Maymon was one of six newcomers to the Golden Eagles in 2009-10, but he struggled to perform at a consistent level. He missed MU’s Dec. 5 loss to North Carolina State with a hip pointer. Maymon was scoreless in two out of the nine games he played, he was the seventh leading scorer of Marquette University with a average of four rebounds per game. His decision leaves only nine scholarship players available for Marquette.
