National Marathon
The National Marathon will start on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. and finish at 1 p.m. The race which will start and end at the same point i.e. RFK Stadium covers a huge territory of almost six of the District’s eight wards. National Marathon is likely to disturb traffic routes as all concerned streets of the D.C. area will have been closed before 6:45 a.m. D.C. police will be there standing on scene for traffic controlling and safety purposes. Capitol Hill residents will not be allowed to cross roads without prior permission of police officers standing there who will decide when to open and close accesses. Resident along Connecticut Avenue, Florida Avenue and M. Street could not pass between 7 and 8:35 a.m.
According to the reports by Weather department, Saturday will be a sunny day with temperatures expected to reach 70s but that temperature would not be so cool for runners who are running in the 2010 SunTrust National Marathon for the very first time. At day times, the temperature could be in the 50s but it is expected to jump about 20 degrees by noon, creating a lot of difficulties for runners who will have to battle with tough conditions to maintain stamina in race. Last year, the high for the day was 51 degrees but this time 50s is expected at the very start of the race.
Almost 11,000 runners are expected to participate in the race and officials have ordered an extra 4,000 bottles of water to distribute during race. Two men have ever won National Marathon. Both are back this time again. Patrick Moulton and Michael Wardian will try to finish the race before others.
