According to police officials, a gunman opened gunfire at Pacific resort island of Saipan killing four people and wounding six others. Police reported that suspect also killed himself. Jason Tarkong, Public Safety spokesman, described that a boy, 4 years old, and a girl of 2 years were also included in dead victims. Wounded include 5 visitors from South Korea with a local resident of 4 years old girl.
“The lieutenant governor and I are monitoring the situation closely and working with officials from (Public Safety) and the FBI and we will continue to keep everyone informed,” Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said.
The suspected shooter was an Asian, working here on a contract, who did not mention his name or home country in contract papers.
Suspect fired a barrage of bullets at Marpi, a popular tourist spot, at 11:21 a.m. local time after that, he moved to Kannat Tabla Shooting Range, in his white van, and killed 4 persons there.
His dead body is found along the edge off the cliff line.
“I want to assure the people of the commonwealth and all of our visiting tourists that the Department of Public Safety has the situation under control and that the individual responsible for these tragedies took his own life,” Fitial said.
