“When Love Is Not Enough” Louis Wilson Story
“When Love is not enough” is a new TV movie that is based on the true story of Louis Wilson. Bill Wilson was the man who helped in producing “Alcohol Anonymous” better known as “AA” or the rehabilitation standard for alcoholics in the US. Bill was an alcohol addict himself and due to that his life was deteriorating badly. As is the case with all alcoholics, Bill was losing control of his anger and was becoming ever more ignorant and oblivious to the emotions of his wife Louis Wilson. But he finds the courage and strength to fight his addiction and get on the path to a better life.
The era shown in the movie is the early 20th century and at that time there were no alcohol rehabilitation institutes and the wives of such addicts had no rights. All they could do was suffer their spouse’s bad behavior and learn to live like that. In the movie the role of Louis Wilson is done by Winona Ryder who is one of Hollywood’s most famous actresses. She definitely does the role with complete devotion and skill.
The movie is an extremely emotional and dramatic work of art. It makes you hate the alcoholic at first and pity his wife. Then as the addiction victim decides to change his life by resisting alcohol, you start liking him and start hoping that he pulls through his struggle.
The movie is a great production, but it does intend to give the feel that it’s shorter than it should’ve been. You’ll feel that the fist 75% of the movie focuses on the hardships Louis goes through due to Bill’s alcoholism. It’s only the last 25% that shows the self-rehabilitation process. But this factor in no way affects the power that the story influences. Thus it’s a must-watch TV movie.
