A man from Kenya, Edward Tabut took first place in Dallas White Rock Marathon on Sunday morning. The Dallas White Rock Marathon is a marathon that has taken place in December in Dallas, Texas since 1971. An official time from the Dallas White Rock Marathon can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Tabut finished in a personal best with a time of 2:16:53. There were 20,000 participants in this year’s race, which is a record.

Tabut, 26, competed with Moses Kororia, the course record holder, and Daniel Gekara throughout the race. They are members of the AmeriKenyan running club. They ran together for most of the time in the race but Tabut made his move after they passed the lake. After the race Tabut said,

“I’m very happy. I’m feeling OK.”

Kororia finished in second place with a time of 2:20:32. The coach of Tabut and Kororia, Scott Robinson said,

“Tabut had been training in cooler weather in Santa Fe, N.M., so he was prepared for the day’s cooler weather.”

The women’s race won by Rose Jebet, 24, of Kenya, she finished at 2:48:21. The Chairman emeritus of the White Rock marathon board Chuck Dannis announced before the race that if the winner broke the course record of 2:12:04, he will get $10,000 bonus for it. Weather conditions were much better than the last year when strong winds caused problems for the participants.
