Wood TV 8 School Closings Godfrey-Lee-School District
December 11, 2009
Yesterday, Godfrey-Lee-Public Schools’ employees remained very sad all day long as there were no students in the schools and without children schools look like ghost houses. David Britten, Superintendent of school, told 24 Hour News 8 that schools look very sad without kids and teacher and the reason of all this is snow. He remembered the winter season of 70s and 80s when there were fewer school closings. He says we need to get a better system of information and better system of decision making. Not a single representative at the Michigan Association of School Administrators was aware of national guideline on topic.
“I think what needs to change is we need to come up with a better system for getting information and making a decision as districts … instead of, ‘What are you doing today? Well I don’t know.’ Pretty soon we feel more pressured into closing than anything else,’ ” Britten said.
According to Britten, 30 % of total students of Godfrey-Lee-District live in other districts so Godfrey-Lee keenly looks what other districts do. Closing is often confusing in the city of Wyoming covering so different school districts. Wyoming includes Godfrey-Lee, Grandville Public Schools, Wyoming Public Schools, Byron Center Public Schools, Kelloggsvile Public Schools and Godwin Heights Public Schools
